| News Title: | 2005 15th Annual Deep South Classic Results: |
The 2005 15th Annual Deep South Classic on the boys’ side had some early surprises and some hard fought battles to just get into the final day’s play. The South Gwinnett Comets, champions for the last three years, suffered an early loss at the hands of the fifth place Peachtree Ridge, who was led by all tournament player Cameron Heyward. That side of the bracket proved tough as a strong Bishop McNamara team couldn’t get past eventual third place Spartanburg led by All tournament senior James Arledge whose strong finishing in the fourth quarter of the third place game got Spartanburg past a surprising strong showing by tournament co-host Brookwood. However, the surprise teams of the tournament had to be Centennial and Chattahoochee who played for the championship. Chattahoochee came into the finals having to beat Southeast ranked Shelbyville Central and got by the scrappy Brookwood Broncos. Those games took a lot out to Chattahoochee and the fourth game in four days against the young and fast Centennial Knights in the championship game provide too much. The Centennial Lions led by all tournament team player Alex Richey and All Tournament team MVP Lorenzo Brown dominated the championship game. Also making the all tournament team were Kyler Vitko of Chattahoochee and Sean Johnson of Brookwood.

There would be no repeat champions in the 2005 Deep South Classic. The 2004 Champions, the Wesleyan Wolves were denied that by Briarcrest Christian from Memphis, TN. Briarcrest Christian had their hands full in their first round draw with the Avondale Blue Devils. Winning by just two points, they went on to easier wins in their bracket to match up against Wesleyan. What turned out to be mirror images of play—scrappy defense, fast breaks, steals and furious play led to a Briarcrest Christian win. Wesleyan had a tougher time just getting to the finals having to get past a tough Spartanburg team and winning a 54-50 decision over a strong South Gwinnett team that finished third in the tournament. Mississippi State signee Alliesha Easley was voted Tournament MVP while her Briarcrest Christian teammate sophomore Andrea Neil was also voted to the all tournament team. Joining her on the all tourney team were Le Le LeSeur of Wesleyan, Emily Clarke of South Gwinnett, Brinkley Knowles of Northwest Whitfield and Lele Hardy of Spartanburg.
