News Title: Milton Eagles crowned 2006 Deep South Classic Boys Champions


Milton proved its win Friday over a very tough Peachtree Ridge boys team was no fluke. The Eagles playing in their first Deep South Classic Tournament came out and hit 11 3-pointers in a 70-55 win over Chattahoochee in the Deep South Classic boys’ championship game.

Both teams struggled from the field early on but after that Milton didn’t miss many. The took a 35-23 lead over the Cougars to the locker room at half time on the heels of 19 points and five 3’s from Connor Nolte. Nolte, the tournament MVP finished the game with 27 points. All Tournament Team teammate Tony Smith scored eight points, had eight rebounds and two blocked shots and Milton’s Brody Litley added 11 points. All Tournament Team Trevor Gaskins led Chattahoochee with 20 points, while Calvin Coke hit four 3’s and finished with 16 points for the Cougars who finished as Deep South Classic runner–up for second straight year.

Milton beat Spartanburg (SC) in opening round action 50-36, nipped host Brookwood Broncos 50-49 and then edged Peachtree Ridge 56-55 in the semi finals on their way to wining four games in four days and capturing the 2006 Championship.
