News Title: 2007 Deep South Classic Scholar Athletes Annoucned


The 17th Annual 2007 Deep South Classic Holiday Basketball Tournament Scholar Athletes are Lauren Pace of Collins Hill High School and Ben Stone of Etowah High School.

The Scholar Athlete award program for the 2007 tournament was sponsored by Britt’s Home Furnishings and Gwinnett Place Nissan. Lauren Pace and Ben Stone were recognized as the top scholar athletes and each received a lap top computer. This scholar athlete competition has become a traditional part of the Deep South Classic Tournament.

The rules of the competition allow only one senior entry per team. The player is nominated by his or her coach and provides the tournament with their attained scholastic information and also must submit a short essay. This year’s topic was “What competing in high school scholastic sports has meant to me.”
